The day has come to an end,
And I've turned out the light.
Curled up in in our big, comfy bed,
I'm all alone for the night.
Work has taken you away
From my ever-loving embrace,
So I take a deep breath
Of your scent in the pillowcase.
I hang up the telephone
And hug your "goodnight" tight,
Knowing I will be dreaming of you
Until the sun shines bright.
But then again, my dreams don't stop
Just because my slumber is through.
When daylight comes, my head is filled
With just as many thoughts of you.
During the day and through the night,
You fill my soul, heart, and mind
With the love you give to me
That is truly one of a kind.
I feel blessed, lucky, and special
To have you at my side.
You are the man of my dreams,
And in my heart, you'll always reside.

I've been writing poetry on and off since 1988. I am adding them here as a way to collect them together in one place. I'm posting them from oldest to newest so that I can continue to add more as I write them.

The Ruins
I was an ancient ruin
Allowed to molder and fall apart.
I was lashed by the weather
And left in the dark.
I was slowly covered in debris
Until my beauty was buried from sight.
I became tangled and overgrown
To the point of being a thing of fright.
God is the great restorer
Who is braving the jungle of evil weeds.
He's hacking way at the bindings
That were strangling my hopes and needs.
The clutter is being hauled away,
The dirt cleaned from each crack.
He is slowly shining his light
By beating the darkness back.
I feel as if I am gleaming;
His glory is breaking through.
He has washed and cleaned me
And made me whole and new.

Enter My Dream
Enter into my fondest and sweetest dream
Where you are faithfully and eternally mine,
To have and to hold from this day forward
From now until the end of time.
My life is filled with so much joy
Because today I awaken to dreams come true.
I have solemn promises and vows to make
And each one I make lovingly to you.
I vow to spend each and every day
And all the minutes in them for the rest of my life
Showing you what it means to me
To be honored by becoming your wife.
I promise to be at your side
No matter what life brings our way
And to always make sure you know
That I love you thoughout the day.
When we open our eyes on a fresh new morning,
I want you to know without a doubt
That you make my life so complete,
I could climb the highest tree and shout.
My husband, you mean the world to me.
No one else can begin to compare.
Someday, when we look back on our life,
It will be packaged with tenderness and care.
We can unwrap the memories one at a time,
Pulling them out like gifts under a tree.
We'll look into each other's satisfied eyes
And know we lived like it was poetry.

Beautiful Oblivion
Your electric eyes snap at mine,
And it's almost shocking to see
How you can take my breath away
With the depth of your feelings for me.
Your nimble hands reach out
To raise the awareness of my skin.
When you touch me that way,
My love for you doubles again.
Your caressing whispers fill my ears
And flow into my racing mind.
Beautiful words of love reassure me
We really are two of a kind.
Your tender kisses are like sustenance
For my starving heart and soul.
They are fuel for my imagination
And make me feel truly whole.
You send me into a beautiful oblivion
When we are sharing the same air.
I am amazed that you are actually mine,
And I look forward to all we have to share.

The Shattering
I take a deep, ragged breath
And close my weary eyes
As my racing mind churns
And tries to maintain my fragile disguise.
This protective shell I so long ago created
To hide myself from life's cruel face
Is cracking into a myriad of jagged pieces
That each fall into an unfamiliar place.
I grasp for a well-worn hold
But instantly am repelled by its feel.
My hands no longer correctly fit
Into the grooves I've carved in steel.
For a moment, the world churns,
And I fear I am falling fast,
But a steadying force takes over
And the heady sensation has passed.
I slowly lift my heavy lids
To observe the newly-laid terrain.
I let out a shocked cry
At the changes that are so plain.
All around where I thoguht chaos would be
Is a new and gleaming place.
The beauty and brightness of it all
Makes a smile spread across my face.
I carefully turn my thoughts inward
And realize that my thick, protective wall
Has fallen victim to the onslaught-
Crumbled once and for all.
To this new and exciting world
I find myself standing totally bare.
I am without my hackneyed trapping,
But I find I no longer care.
I feel like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon
And unfurling for the first time its wings.
Standing on the edge of a new journey,
I leave behind my old ways and things.
So, this is what I bring to you now-
Myself stripped thoroughly and completely clean,
But its the real me for you to examine
As no one before has ever seen.

The Knot
Imagine the pattern of a knot
With three perfectly equal sides-
Each part exquisite in beauty,
but ever-changing as the tides.
If you were to look closely,
You'd see the mingling of ebb and flow-
One continuously becoming another
As they shift and grow.
Powerful, vigorous, and strong,
A living knot it appears to be,
Needing nurturing and attention
Just as surely as you and me.
Three sides and three emotions
Harmoniously existing in one place.
Before you, love, trust, and respect
Were not known in the same space.
Its priceless and rare composition
Is beyond stunning to see.
I'll forever cherish our beautiful knot
And all that it means to me.

Daybreak
As the new day breaks
And the sun begins to shine,
My mind becomes alert
As I slowly open my eyes.
Thoughts of the hours just past
Fill my mind with images so sweet.
I look up and am taken aback
When your smiling eyes I meet.
Our limbs are entwined and embraced
Like a secret garden's vines,
The heat from our bodies-
Intoxicating as the best wines.
You pull me closer for a kiss
And my mind becomes a haze.
Whether its magic or real,
It sets my emotions ablaze.
Later, after you have risen to go
And I am alone in bed,
I carefully begin to replay
The scenes again in my head.
As I lay there grinning
And enjoying the bliss,
I can't help but wish
For just one more kiss.

Where Did I Go Right?
So many mistakes I've made-
My past was one wrong turn.
I kept messing up again and again.
It seemed I'd never learn.
All the advice I didn't take
Swimming around in my head-
I stumbled so many times,
Its surprising I'm not dead.
But...
Where did I go right?
What exactly did I do?
Somehow I got off track,
And I found you.
Where did I go right?
My path is suddenly so clear.
I know what I want in life
When you are near.
Your love is an intense force
That drives my life to you.
It makes me feel comfortable
Because its steady and true.
You show me who I want to be
With strength, peace, and laughter.
I have come to life inside-
Moving away from sure disaster.
Where did I go right?

What If...
What if we tested the waters-
The friction between you and me?
If we took a peek at our hearts,
What would be there to see?
What if we let down our guards
And invited each other in?
Would we find something exciting-
A new chapter to begin?
What if we pushed the boundries
Of what is safe and known?
Do you think buried feelings
And suppressed thoughts would be shown?
What if we were to just ignore
Everything other people would think?
Have you ever wondered just how deeply
In love our hearts would sink?

Signal
When I look at you,
Can you feel my eyes?
Touching where I can't,
They're my hands in disguise.
I turn my gaze away
Just as you look over.
I'm sure you've caught me;
I think I've blown my cover.
A quick glance back up
Shows that I was right.
Your knowing smile and look
Make my hopes take flight.
I wish I had more courage
To say something besides, "hi."
But when I am near you,
I'm just way too shy.
So, I'm sending you a signal
With my eyes and my "hello"
For you to make your move
And not be so slow.

Lie
I've seen her every day
But she doesn't really know me at all.
I'm sure she'd think me crazy
If I asked her to have a talk.
When we meet, she only stares back-
Just as confused as me.
I can only imagine how she feels
Or who she would rather see.
I'll bet she has questions-
So many things she doesn't know,
Like what am I hiding behind my frown
And what my guarded eyes are afraid to show.
Standing next to her,
I feel somewhat strange.
She looks so much like me,
But as some point, I underwent a change.
Does she even see it?
Does he wonder what happened to me?
I doubt she gives a second thought-
Her days being mostly carefree.
Wouldn't it be nice if our only problems
Consisted of what we were going to wear,
How it looked on us,
And what we were doing to our hair?
Beside my reflection,
I know she tells me a lie.
She tries to tell me I look fine
And that everything is alright.
No, she doesn't take the time-
She doesn't look to comprehend.
Just a quick check out the mirror
And she's off again.

Word of God
To some, the word of God
Means nothing at all,
But to others, its more than
A way of living- its the law.
This is true with me
Because of the power of the word.
I think its the most
Amazing thing I've ever heard.
I have heard the word of God,
Different than the conventional way,
Of what other people woud think
Or expect me to say.
The spoken word for me
Came swift, strong, and firm.
It was the word "patience"-
Which I'm still trying to learn.

The Runner
Faded memories of life's cruel jokes
Echo laughter inside his head.
He can't help but wonder
Who'll care when he's dead.
His soul is in constant torture
By demons from his past.
He thought he could outrun them,
But he's coming in last.
Falling behind in this race called life,
Somehow he has to gain way.
Doggedly, he counts the steps
Only to lose another day.
A strong voice from high above-
One he once knew too well-
Speaks out to him sternly
Words that add wind to his sail.
"My son, stop running from the past;
Release what's dead and gone.
Place your sights on the future,
Which is only yours to own."
He bowed his weary head
And took a ragged breath.
Whispering a prayer of thanks,
He knew he had just outrun death.
Remember, its better to be the stalker
Than to be the prey.
Always chase your dreams
Or your nightmares will win the day.

Closer to Closure
It seemed a lifetime
You had me bound to you,
But I saw beyond your evil deeds
And now the nightmare is through.
Fear and lies enabled you-
Allowed your unnatural affliction,
But now I've escaped
And won't feed your addiction.
I'm closer to closure-
I have nothing to hide.
The pain is almost gone;
I'm coming to life inside.
I'm closer to closure-
Almost where I want to be.
Just one more day
And maybe I'll be free.
Courage has many forms
And strength has many faces.
Confronting you was so difficult,
Like the toughest of races.
Your apologies rang false,
But were there just the same.
It might have meant more,
If you hadn't sounded so lame.
I'm closer to closure-
I have nothing to hide.
The pain is almost gone;
I'm coming to life inside.
I'm closer to closure-
Almost where I want to be.
Just one more day
And maybe I'll be free.
Last night I got the call
I knew would eventually arrive.
Not knowing if I was sad or relieved
I listened to the news you'd died.
Tomorrow I'll see you again
After all these years.
You won't be able to see
Me release these pent-up tears.
I'm closer to closure-
I have nothing to hide.

Firestarter
Start the spark;
Watch it grow.
The flash of your eyes
Smolders so slow.
My body heat rises
At just a grin.
A soft-spoken word
Doubles it again.
You're a firestarter-
Burning me up inside.
Feeling the flame's heat
Opens my heart wide.
You're a firestarter-
Setting me to blaze.
Making my voice smokey;
Can't see through the haze.
I let my mind drift
For only just a bit,
Imagining what's to come.
Ooh, my candle is lit.
Hotter and hotter,
Breathing becomes tough.
Focusing on you again,
Keeping my distance is rough.
You're a firestarter-
Burning me up inside.
Feeling the flame's heat
Opens my heart wide.
You're a firestarter-
Setting me to blaze.
Making my voice smoky,

Pounding in my veins,
Sizzling in my ears,

Could bring me to tears.
Come put it out;
Give me what I need.
Finish what you started;
Don't make me plead.

Louder Than Words
They say that love
Can be hard to figure out.
But I have no problem seeing
What yours is all about.
Each day you take the time
To show me in small ways
Just what I mean to you
And what your heart says.
How do you do it?
How can you treat me this way?
Actions speak louder than words
Any you've acted a mouthful today.
Cruel words dig so deep-
Deeper than the skin.
They lodge in the heart
And make me weak from within.
Your love cuts like a knife-
You know you do me so wrong.
How can you say you love me,
Then leave me all alone?
How do you do it?
How can you treat me this way?
Actions speak louder than words
And you've acted a mouthful today.
You accuse me of cheating
But honestly, I'm not.
Thinking of what it would cause
Is just a repulsive thought.
But you leave me lonely
And aching for so much more-
Can't you reach out your hand
And remember what your heart's for?
How do you do it?
How can you treat me this way?
Actions speak louder than words
Any you've acted a mouthful today.
How do I do it?
How can I treat myself this way?
Actions speak louder than words,
And I guess I'll be moving on today.

Deeper than the skin.
They lodge in the heart
And make me weak from within.
Your love cuts like a knife-
You know you do me so wrong.
How can you say you love me,
Then leave me all alone?
How do you do it?
How can you treat me this way?
Actions speak louder than words
And you've acted a mouthful today.
You accuse me of cheating
But honestly, I'm not.
Thinking of what it would cause
Is just a repulsive thought.
But you leave me lonely
And aching for so much more-
Can't you reach out your hand
And remember what your heart's for?
How do you do it?
How can you treat me this way?
Actions speak louder than words
Any you've acted a mouthful today.
How do I do it?
How can I treat myself this way?
Actions speak louder than words,
And I guess I'll be moving on today.

Take Me Seriously
Boy, you've been chasing me a while.
Yeah, you're giving me the eye.
I keep catching your little smile,
But I guess you must be shy.
Go ahead and approach me.
You know you can pull up that chair.
I'm getting worked up over here.
Can't you do more than stare?
Why don't you just take me-
Seriously, Baby.
I'm not joking around;
I'm not playing games.
Just c'mon and take me-
Seriously, Baby!
Just a simple hello,
And I'm lost in your voice.
I think I'm already yours-
Did I ever have a choice?
You say you like my eyes.
Can't you see what they're saying to you?
I guess you can't take a hint,
So, I'll give you an obvious clue.
Why don't you just take me-
Seriously, Baby.
I'm not joking around;
I'm not playing games.
Just c'mon and take me-
Seriously, Baby!
Now on the dance floor,
You move so close to me.
I get lost in your touch-
Your body fits so perfectly.
Don't hold back-
I want what you've got.
Can't you feel the flame?
Its making me so hot.
Why don't you just take me-
Seriously, Baby.
I'm not joking around;

Picked Flowers
The beauty is overpowering;
The scent is all around.
To possess the flower
Causes joy to abound.
You have the world's beauty
Captured in a vase.
How can such sweetness
Exist in one place?
But picked flowers
Are doomed from the start.
They leave you almost always
With a broken heart.
They wilt away slowly
And its all because of you.
They can't live in a glass cage
Even if your love is true.
You can't capture love
And keep it in glass.
It needs room to grow
Or it will never last.

Illusions
Deep pools of brown and green-
At once murky and bright;
Both passionately dark
And lovingly light.
I look into the depths
To see mysterious dark brown.
If I stare too long,
In the shadows I'll drown.
I blink only once,
And in wonder I gaze.
The exquisite green glow
Leaves me in a daze.
The illusion puts me in awe
To find where magic lies.
And to get to this place,
I need only look into your eyes.

Whisper
The pendulum swings;
The scales are tipped.
One wing's broken-
In blood its dipped.
A whisper from the past,
And betrayal is shown.
Here in the present,
Trust is unknown.
As she lays her head to rest,
She hears love's rattled sigh.
The ghost of her future
Echos the word, "Why?"

Windstrewn
We are like two ships in a storm,
Beaten by the sea and wind-
Not knowing if we will survive
Until the storm comes to an end.
I may go my way,
And you may go your own.
The sea winds blow us astray
Until we both feel alone.
But when those storm clouds break,
The sun will shine through.
Then we will surely find each other,
And we can begin anew.

To A Friend,
Just wanted to let you know
My thoughts are with you;
And if you need to talk,
I can do that, too.
I know how it feels
To have confusion in your heart;
At times you think you might
Just completely fall apart.
Sometimes a show of friendship
Can put problems in their place.
I'm only hoping I achieved
At putting a smile on your face.

Her Demon
Its looming in the darkness;
She can feel it closing in.
She thought the demon was dead,
But she's afraid it will rise again.
It mauled and maimed her once.
The scars will never go away.
She knows this demon well,
And she fears its here to stay.
It may have a new victim soon,
But only time will tell.
There's nothing she can do
To save the new one from the hell.
All she can do is pray
That these events won't come to pass.
She can only hope the terror
Has come to an end at last.

Donald,
Thanks for the poem;
It was very sweet;
Getting such a special gift
Was really a treat.
It means a lot to me
To know you took the time
To write for me
This beautiful little rhyme.

Alisha,
I started to buy a card,
You know, for your birthday.
I read each one carefully,
But none had the right thing to say.
As I thought about you,
I decided to tell you how I feel.
No silly card could do that;
It just wouldn't seem real.
I wanted you to know that you're special,
And that seeing you makes my day.
I wanted you to know I love you,
And that I miss you more than I can say.
You're my little sister,
And today is your special day.
So, I'm wishing you lots of happiness
And a wonderful birthday.

An Hour Before The Races
It was an hour before the races
And all across the lot,
Every racer was comparing,
And all were bragging a lot.
Not a six cylinder could be seen
For everyone had a built small block.
Each was weaving his tale
About how it was only stock.
Engines were roaring to life,
And racing slicks were put on.
Everyone was getting ready,
From the novice to the well-known.
VHT was put on the track
So that the tires wouldn't spin.
The christmas tree was tested,
And the intercom crackled in.
The time was finally here,
And as far as could be seen,
The cars were lined up.
Then, ready, set, GREEN!

I Am Here
I am here;
I always will be.
I won't ever leave;
You can count on me.

Yes, its true;

I won't let you go.
I'll stay by your side;

Mama,
You didn't ask for it,
And you certainly didn't see it coming.
One minute you felt fine,
The next your heart was drumming.
I don't know if it was like that for you;
It happens different every time.
The feeling is so wonderful,
That it should be a crime.
I'm so pleased you've found love.
You deserve it in every way.
I couldn't be happier for you,
And I hope every day is like your wedding day.

Changes
The beginning of a chapter,
The start of a season-
Everything begins somewhere;
Things happen for a reason.
Tomorrow I will be twenty,
The start of a new decade for me.
I have so much to look forward to
And so much left to do and see.
I will no longer be a teenager,
But will be considered "grown up."
It doesn't seem all that long ago
I was learning how to wear makeup!
Will I be more mature?
Sometimes I know I need to be.
Will I be little wiser?
I'll just have to wait and see.
I am a little bit nervous;
But I'm not exactly sure why.
I know something is about to end,
But part of me hopes its a lie.
The close of a chapter,
The end of a season-
Everything has its time;
Things change for a reason.

Money
Day to day, week to week-
How do we make do?
The checks are too small,
And the bills are overdue.
There's money in my pocket,
But its not mine to spend.
I owe money to everyone,
And no one's willing to lend.
I go to work every day
And try to get ahead,
But the money goes so fast,
That payday is a day I dread.
What's the big secret?
Someone, let me know.
How do I pay the bills
And still have money to blow?
Maybe someday I will have
All the money I need,
But until that day arrives,
With the bill collectors I'll plead.

My Wedding Day
Waiting so patiently-
How much longer will it be?
Wondering what's happening out there-
When will they call for me?
I've taken my time-
Made sure everything's just right.
but now I'm getting impatient-
Staying in this room takes all my might.
It won't be much longer now-
I can hear the music starting to play.
All my dreams are coming true-
For I will be your wife today.

Our Flower
It started as a seed,
So fragile, small, and meek;
It had to be nurtured and nursed
So that it wouldn't wilt or be weak.
As time passed on,
It started to sprout out.
It was only a small twig,
But it stood strong and stout.
It grew very rapidly;
And its roots grew deep and strong.
At times, it had to struggle,
But a flower blossomed before very long.
This flower was a rose,
Its beauty so immense.
It was shaped so perfectly,
And its sweet smell so intense.
This rose is our love;
They are alike in almost every way.
There is one difference, though.
Our flower will never go away.

Dear Daddy
I am ready to make that commitment,
And so is he.
I am ready to accept his ring,
And he is ready for a family, if need be.
We want to make that commitment
As soon as we can.

And he is my only man.
We are ready to make that commitment
And accept the responsibilities that come along.
So please trust us,
And don't make us wait too long.

Always Remember I Love You
When you get down
And feel that no one cares,
You can rest assured
That, for any reason, I will be there.
No matter who makes you mad
Or who makes you cry,
Always remember I love you,
Even 'til the day I die.
I can't express to you
The feelings it causes inside;
When you are upset,
Its sort of like someone died.
It tears me up to know
That in your heart there's pain.
Always remember I love you-
Even when the sunshine turns to rain.
I want you to know
What I feel in my soul.
Without you in my life,
I would never be whole.
I'm not just saying this,
For I wouldn't do anything of that sort
Always remember I love you,
From the very depths of my heart.

All I Want
Love, hate, pleasure, pain;
I feel like I've been hit by a train.
This, that, here, there;
It's a wonder I still have any hair.
Mama, Daddy, you, and I;
Just why did I have to lie?
Grounded, punished, beat, dead;
I wish I could run away instead.
Crazy, loony, sane, ok;
Why should I have to stay?
Too little, too big, too young, too old;
I know I should do as I'm told.
Yes, no, false, true;
All I want is to be with you.

My Desire
Even though we haven't been together long,
It seems like it has been an eternity.
I feel as if my life never existed
Before you were with me.
If I imagine being without you,
I see my life turned upside down.
I would feel like a queen
Who had just lost her crown.
You will always be to me
The light that shines above the rest.
Your love is of a quality
That can only be called the best.
I look forward to the day
That you will truly be mine,
Because every time I'm with you,
I feel like I'm on cloud nine.
Your love rules my life
With the intensity of a fire.
I wait for the day to be your wife,
For this is my one and only desire.

Thoughts
Thoughts of you go through my mind
As I slowly drift to sleep.
Your love was so hard to find,
But it is so easy to keep.
I won't forget the day
That I fell in love with you.
I knew, without you having to say,
That you loved me, too.
I don't know what I would do
If you weren't there to hold.
I only know that if I didn't have you,
My life would be lonely, barren, and cold.
I hold on to the moments that we share
Because they are sometimes few and far between.
You know that I will always care
Even if I don't always express what I mean.
I just want you to know
How much I really do love you.
And if I should ever have to let you go,
My heart would be broken in two.

My Love
I live through the day
And for the night.
I seem to always be waiting
For you to be in my sight.
I hate saying goodbye
When it is time to go.
You are the warmth
And light of my soul.
I love you so much,
I'm sure you can see.
The only thing I want
Is for you to be with me.
Each morning when I awake,
My head fills with thoughts of you.
I know that our love
Is undeniably true.
My love is like steel.
It will not break or bend.
And as far as I can see,
My love has no end.

After All
After all of the hurt and all of the pain
And all of the searching in vain,
I've finally found a love that is true,
And it is all because of you.
After all of the tears and all the blame
And all of the hiding in shame,
I've finally found someone whose love I can share,

So please don't ever go away.
Just tell me that you will always stay.

My Broken Heart
Sometimes I feel like I'm living in the past.
I keep remembering all those times that didn't last.
The way you used to move me with that smile,
I wish I could have it all back for a while.
I should have known it was never meant to be.
I must have been deaf and not able to see.
For now you've found someone new
And left my heart broken and askew.

I keep remembering all those times that didn't last.
The way you used to move me with that smile,
I wish I could have it all back for a while.
I should have known it was never meant to be.
I must have been deaf and not able to see.
For now you've found someone new
And left my heart broken and askew.

Someone Like Her
I saw you just a while ago,
Standing there waiting for her.
Its hard to let someone you love go,
Especially to someone like her.
I saw you just the other day.
Walking with your arm around her.
I can't keep my feelings at bay,
Especially to someone like her.
I remember that time long past
When it was me by your side instead of her.
I don't know how long I can last,
Especially when I lost you to someone like her.

Life
Life is like a ferris wheel.
When you're on top, you're happy.
When you're on bottom, you're sad.
One is always leading into the other.

The Bee
There once was a bee
Who stung me.
He stung me once;
He stung me twice.
I said, "Bee, that wasn't nice!"
So, I stomped him flat,
And that was that.
